We use all the links below when researching various buildings. Do you have other resources you feel should be included here. Please contact us.
The National Archives Records and Administration at College Park Maryland
The official documents and records for post offices can be found at The National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) facility in College park Maryland.
As of September 29, 2016 I’ve officially made my first visit to this facility. It was quite the learning experience and one I plan to share as we go about documenting our nation’s post offices and artwork.
The United States Postal Service
No surprise here. We photograph the buildings, artwork and anything else related to each of the buildings we come across. Consequently we also use the addresses posted on their website when creating our articles.
NOTE: postofficefreak is not affiliated in way shape or form with the United States Postal Service. We do not work for the postal service.
Smithsonian National Postal Museum
Although I’m not a stamp or post mark collector this is a great site and has interesting articles. I have found it useful when I come across various artifacts.
National Register of Historic Places
Many of the buildings we feature here on postofficefreak are registered historic places. We use this website to cross verify and lookup current or additional information regarding some of these historically significant buildings.
The Living New Deal
We are an associate for the Living New Deal. What does that mean you ask? We submit our images and information and findings to their site. We also verify some of the building information as we come across it. We are another set of eyes and ears when it comes to site visits.
Save the Post Office
This website provides information about the post office closings and consolidations that are taking place, the historic post office buildings that are being sold off, the efforts people are taking to protect their post offices, and the things citizens can do to save their post office when it ends up on the closure list.
Post Mark Collectors Club
A Premier Philatelic organization, based in the U.S., with members worldwide. We are a nonprofit affiliate of the American Philatelic Society.
They also have a great list of post office images.
Most of the murals we featured here on postofficefreak have been restored by Parma Conservation. We love their work and are delighted they are around to restore our nations treasured murals.
United States Post Office Properties for Sale
CBRE has a dedicated website solely for selling off our nation’s post office buildings.
I offer this link in the hopes that one day I’ll be able to buy one and move in like this family in Montana. http://www.today.com/video/throw-an-oscars-party-with-its-own-red-carpet-and-paparazzi-631132739906
